History of Mt. Zion Church
In the summer of 1880 W.M. McBroom of Byesville, Ohio was preaching at a Schoolhouse near Gibson Station west of Salesville Ohio. Mrs. I.G. Eagon states in her account that it was their privilege to hear a powerful message on “God’s Promise to Abraham.” An invitation was extended to the minister to come to the District No. 6 Schoolhouse in Beaver Township Noble County, known as the “Old Colliflower School, which is in site of where Mt. Zion stands today. As a result, he came once a month and preached. Attendance and interest grew, and when the invitation given on December 11, 1881, six people responded and were baptized the same afternoon in a beautiful stream of water near Yoker Valley Road. The next time was January 29, 1882, and seven more saved, and seven more were baptized in the afternoon. That evening Mt Zion Church was organized with thirteen members. A permanent meeting place was needed, and David G Parry offered a lot on his farm on which to build. The minister, a stone mason and plaster by trade, proposed to lay the foundation. A subscription paper was prepared and carried in the area, and people gave generously, amounts being from five cents to one hundred dollars. The work progressed steadily on the building, and it dedicated in July of 1882. They would hold their first service in August. The church grew and the desire to learn the Bible truths increased. A Sunday School class has been maintained since 1882. A number of men have served the church as Pastors and Evangelists through the years. Missionaries from different places all around the world have been a blessing to the church.
May the word of God go forth as a blessing for those in the area
